David WARREN Obituary

David was born May 8, 1943, and passed away peacefully, on June 30, 2024, at the age of 81. He was surrounded by his family, reflecting the unwavering support he provided them throughout his life. David is survived by his loving wife, Cheri, with whom he shared almost 50 years of marriage; and their three children, Jamie Warren, Michael Warren, and Kelly Eldridge (Paul). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren, Alexa, Cameron, Zoe, Spencer, Libby, and Violet. David loved sports, politics and the outdoors – golfing, fishing, forest management, skiing, cutting trails, travelling, boating, and cottaging. These shared experiences, full of joy and laughter, have no doubt left a lasting footprint on the hearts of his family and friends. David, a graduate of Upper Canada College and Ryerson, was born and raised in Toronto. He had an illustrious business career spanning 50 years, including 37 years in Commercial Real Estate. He began his career at Xerox, and worked for Petro Canada, Campeau Corporation, Knowlton Realty and his most recent 22 years at Avison Young. David had a passion for real estate and stayed involved until his last days. He officially retired in 2017. Outside of his family and career, David had a strong sense of duty to his community. He was actively involved in many non-profits, including the Canadian Hearing Society Foundation, Toronto Zoo Foundation, The Alzheimer Society, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Nature Conservancy Canada, and Mono-Mulmur Citizens Coalition. In 1996, the Lieutenant Governor presented him with Toronto's Volunteer Service Award. David will be fondly remembered for his intellectual curiosity and readiness to lend an ear or a helping hand. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of mentorship, love, commitment, and friendship will continue to inspire those who knew him well. The family wishes to recognize the staff of St. Michael's Hospital. In particular, Dr. Drew Brotherston, and the nursing staff on the 14th floor, for the outstanding and compassionate care provided. A visitation will take place on July 15th, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre. A memorial service will be held on July 16th in the chapel in the same location at 11:30 a.m. There will also be a visitation that morning beginning at 10 a.m., and a reception at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider St. Michael's Hospital Foundation and/or Nature Conservancy Canada.

It is an impressive story about an impressive man. Beyond all that, David was also a thoughtful, altruistic neighbour. We lived next door for several years and can confirm all the positive things said about him. ----Sandy and Dick P

I very much appreciated working with David several years ago when he assisted the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation with a real estate transaction, subsequently making a generous donation.
His patience, wisdom and deep commitment to our community really impressed me. It was an honour to have met him,
I did not have the opportunity to meet any of David's family, but I know how much you all meant to him, and of course, what he meant to you.
Caring thoughts at this difficult time,
Nancy Harris (former OSMH Foundation Board member)

David´s passing was unexpected. It left us stunned and disbelieving. We were able to sit by his bedside the day before, holding his hand, hoping he felt the love and affection that we had for him.

David was a warm, gentle, caring and wise man. His laughter was infectious. I smile as I write these words.

Others will speak about his business acumen and community involvement. He was a formidable force in helping organizations achieve their goals. For us he was a friend, always willing to offer advice or comfort as during my struggles with various surgeries.

He was a steadfast member of the Mulmur Book Club. A highlight of our time together as members was a collaboration on a presentation on a modern writer´s describing how Thucydides had relevance to modern China´s growth. A bit arcane, but we had fun and it is still remembered as a special event years later.

We all have a special place in our hearts for David. He will always be remembered. May his memory be a blessing.
