DAVID WHETTER Obituary
David Clinton Whetter was born in Toronto, March 19, 1943, and died in Vancouver, April 15, 2025. Raised in Rouyn-Noranda, in a family that valued personal industry, social endeavour, and the arts, David went on to complete studies in architecture (BArch) and business (MSc) at The University of British Columbia. In 1965, David married Robin Brown. He joined Cornerstone Planning Group, in Vancouver, retiring only recently after a distinguished career - a respected leader in the field of facility and infrastructure planning, a welcome guest lecturer at several architectural schools, a valued colleague and mentor. In retirement, he pursued his love of writing, in particular exploring decision-making frameworks and needed reforms to democracy. In addition to, and contributing to, his breadth of knowledge and his understanding of different perspectives, David was a devoted traveller. His and Robin's sense of adventure and curiosity about the world led them to rewarding encounters in many countries on five continents, over 60 years. David was a beloved husband, brother, friend, a person of integrity, quick wit, someone who loved a lively debate. He met others more than half-way, engaging across generations, cultures, professional or political divides. His and Robin's hospitality was legendary - generous and warm. David set many good examples. His own disposition towards life's challenges was always to determine clearly first where you want to go and then how best to get there. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. David was predeceased by his parents, Clint and Elsie Whetter. He is survived by his wife, Robin and his sister, Jackie Campbell. His resting place is at the Brown Family plot in Riverland Cemetery, Lac du Bonnet, MB. A memorial gathering is being planned.
