DAVID YULE Obituary

It is with profound sadness and grateful memories that we share the peaceful passing of David, the ultimate understated gentleman, who has now moved on to the next leg of his adventure. Born in Invercargill, New Zealand, David was predeceased by his parents Dr. Owen and Margaret Yule and his beloved wife of 61 years, Joan (Ridpath). David and Joan, who first met in Algonquin Park, shared a deep love of family and the outdoors splitting summers between their fishing cabin at Key Harbour (built in the remote northern wilds of Georgian Bay by David and his buddies when he was only 18 years old) and their cottage at Canoe Lake. Winters were at their log cabin at Hidden Valley, Huntsville. They instilled this appreciation for the north in their children, Karen and Bruce (Lynn). David loved to explore and found his way from the Arctic to the Antarctic, across Europe, North and South America and the Middle East. He was an avid sailor competing both locally at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, and internationally. Other passions included skiing, curling, and giving back. He tirelessly dedicated much of his time to volunteering. Whether it was within the CA profession, as President the Canadian Yachting Association, part of the Canada One America's Cup challenge or Toronto's fist bid for the Olympics. David channeled his energy and expertise into everything he touched – steering healthcare boards through mergers; establishment of the Hidden Valley Highlands ski club, and relocation of Toronto's Granite Club. After success at UCC and the University of Toronto (Trinity College) David enjoyed a rewarding career at Clarkson Gordon/Ernst & Young. David then continued on as a valued board director, family advisor, arbitrator and much sought after professional expert witness throughout the rest of his life. He was appreciated as someone who was reserved in voicing his opinions but carefully listened to when he did. He always managed to find ways to be part of the solution to any challenge faced by those around him. David leaves behind four treasured grandsons – Finn, AJ, Colin and Evan to follow his example as well as his sister Lesley (Bill Rogan). I have just learned of Dave's passing by checking the Globe and Mail. He was the best man at my wedding with Tony Raymond who attended Commerce with Dave at Trinity. Dave and Tony kept in touch and we enjoyed visits with him and Joan to the Key, Canoe Lake and Hidden Valley and many evenings of bridge. After Dave and I both lost our partners, we chatted on the phone to catch up. I had been trying to reach Dave but his Answering System is full. My warmest sympathies to Leslie,Karen, Bruce and families.

David possessed a clarity of mind and professionalism that was not evident from his desktop filing system! He was a wonderful colleague, mentor and friend over many years, as was Karen. My condolences to the Yule family.

David was a great mentor to me when I moved from audit to consulting. David was always interested in my career . We had many lunches at the Greek place in the BMO centre. As a retired partner I worked beside Dave in the retired partners´ office at 222 bay
I also sailed a lot and knew many of the same people. I´ll always remember Dave as a wonderful mentor and friend.
My condolences to Karen and the rest of Dave´s family.

Karen
I'm very sorry for your loss.
Your Dad indeed was the ultimate gentleman. He always had time to share a kind word and tell a story, especially about sailing. He was very patient and understanding at work and always fun to be around.

I was saddened to learn of David's passing. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with him on many issues while at the firm and after retirement in the retired partner's office.
We also shared interest in Georgian Bay. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many.
Thinking of you. Lloyd.
