Derwyn HANCOCKS Obituary

HANCOCKS, Derwyn Richard

It is with great sadness that the family of Derwyn Richard Hancocks, Derry (or 'Hank' to his close friends), announces his passing on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the age of 80 years.
Derry was born to Oliver and Margaret (nee Moore) Hancocks on January 20, 1936 in Hamilton, ON. He graduated from Central Secondary School and went on to earn a degree in business from the University of Western Ontario. From there he carved out a career in human resources ultimately holding executive positions with Ford, Rubbermaid, and Canadian Corporate Management. Later in his career he started his own company and transitioned to authoring professional HR publications, completing two key works - The Human Resources Advisor and HR Policy Pro - the latter of which he continued to edit and update until the time of his passing.
In 1958, he married Eleanor (nee Armstrong) and soon after they became longtime residents of Clarkson/Lorne Park remaining together for 49 years until her death. In 2009, Derry married Carol Koladich (nee Aboline/Merritt) who shall forever remember their times of happiness, love and laughter. He is also remembered by his beloved stepmother, Elisabeth Hancocks; and his children, Darren (Michele) and Dale (Anne); and by their children (Keah, Rowan, Lex, Noel and Astrid); and his stepchildren, Steve Koladich, Mike Koladich (Rhonda), and Pete Koladich (Ally); and by their children (Sammy, Sophie, Griffin, Maxx, Morgan and Toby). He is also survived by his brother, George.
A longtime member of Credit Valley G&CC, WWII model airplane collector and a Scotch enthusiast, Derry liked nothing better than to share a good drink with his 'Coug', loved ones or friends at the end of a hard (or not so hard) day. From those who are left behind, we raise a Dalwhinnie to Derry's memory and say 'Lang may yer lum reek'.
Deeply touched by the recitation of John McCrae's In Flanders Fields, Derry remained encouraging of all to make good choices - 'To you from the failing hands we throw, The torch, be yours to hold it high.'
A private family service and interment will be held. A memorial celebration service for relatives and friends to occur late January, 2017.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Ian Anderson House for their caring support during Derry's last days. Donations may be sent to Ian Anderson House in Derry's memory.
