Diane MISENER Obituary
DIANE MISENER Diane Misener of Stratford passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on January 20, 2024. She was born Marian Diane Martin on October 13, 1938, in Stratford to James and Lucy (Cook) Martin. Her mother played piano for the silent movies at a local theatre and her father was a machinist at the CN Rail yards who died when Diane was only 12. An infant brother, Robert, also predeceased her. Diane and her sister Jackie were an inseparable and mischievous duo who supported each other, and their Mom through some difficult times. After graduating from Stratford Central, Diane worked as a legal assistant at the law firm of Thompson, Gregory, Anderson, Ehgoetz and Bell where she met the love of her life, Chester. Diane's infectious sense of fun and ready smile were a perfect compliment to Chester's cerebral gravitas. They were married on July 15, 1960, a day when they also celebrated John F Kennedy's nomination at the Democratic convention. Diane and Chester were a devoted couple who shared a passion for family, politics, bridge and travel. Diane was a clever sounding board for Chester. She was also an animal lover, figure skater, dancer and advocate for social justice who contributed her talents to many a political cause and community organization. She served for many years, including as President, on the Hamlet Home and School Association and was a lifelong member of the St. Paul's Anglican Church. Diane was a devoted mother to her children, Julie (Leon Levin), Mary (Bruce Bauer), Jamie (Leanne Marriott) and Stephen (Andrea). She was the loving grandmother of Alyssa, Ben, Beth, Clara, Emily, Justin, Katie and Nick (Kelsey) and great-grandmother of Ashton. Diane is also survived by her sister, Jackie; and her children, Janice and Jim. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support of our neighbours and friends. Memorial donations in Diane's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth and Stratford General Hospital. There will be no funeral or memorial service in accordance with Diane's wishes.
