Don MATHESON Obituary

DON GARFIELD MATHESON After a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's Disease, Don Garfield Matheson died peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 80, with his beloved wife, Blondina, by his side. Don was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and grew up in the Grayburn community. He was predeceased by his parents, Neil Garfield Matheson and Mary Matheson; and his brother, Dwight. Left to mourn are his sister, Louise (Doug) Ott; Dwight's wife, Marilyn; and sister, Shelley (Dave) Froehlich. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Don was an avid student throughout his life. During his high school years, he obtained his ARCT in piano performance and teaching. The time Don spent at his grand piano remained dear to his heart and brought him much joy. After moving to Ontario in 1973, Don was ordained in the United Church of Canada. Don enjoyed a long and varied career in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, education and administrative positions with the United Church of Canada in Ontario. His ministry was defined by his creativity, music and his generous spirit of love and inclusivity. Family and friends are invited to an informal service and reception to celebrate Don's life at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, ON, on September 30, 2023, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.If so desired, donations may be made in Don's memory to Bloor Street United Church, Toronto, ON, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR Canada), or Parkinson Canada. A family service and interment will be held later in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
