DONALD CARLISLE Obituary

(1941 - 2025) Donald Hugh Carlisle passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at the age of 83. Born to Donald and Evelyn Carlisle, Don was a lifelong resident of Toronto and was known by all as a kindhearted gentleman. Don had a brilliant mind, earning an undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics, followed by two advanced graduate degrees in science and business. He channeled his talents into a distinguished career in the financial industry, where his intellect was evident in every endeavour. After a long day's work, Don found joy in sitting at his piano, effortlessly playing his favourite pieces by ear. He had a love for symphony, ballet, and opera performances. He was a connoisseur of fine food and wine, cultivating a cellar that reflected his discerning taste. Don's love for sailing was a cornerstone of his life. He often said that spending an afternoon on the water was all the medicine anyone ever needed. Above all, Don treasured his family. He is survived by his devoted partner, Jan Carlisle; his adored children, Courtney Steeves (Andrew), David Carlisle (Adrienne), Katie Carlisle (Bram) and stepdaughter, Jennifer Gray; and his cherished grandchildren, Henry, William, Sasha, Reece, Connor, Dylan, Sidney, Claire, and Charles. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Candice Cassils. Don's legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness lives on in each of them. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Edna Banug, whose eight years of compassionate care were invaluable, as well as to the dedicated healthcare teams who supported Don in his later years. The family will receive friends for a visitation at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8th. A funeral will take place on May 9th at 2:00 p.m. at Northlea United Church, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Toronto. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation (https://foundation.sunnybrook.ca) to honour Don's memory and continue the work of those who cared for him. Condolences, memories or photos may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.

I met Don through the St. Andrews Society.... nothing to do with work. He and my father looked somewhat alike, and two more Scottish-looking, slim handsome men in their dress kilts who loved to dance would be hard to find! Through various bumps in our lives, Don and I would natter on about life, love, and the bumps - and we always found a laugh and humour in the telling. Such a gracious and sweet man. He made my life better. Godspeed, Don, and thank you.

Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. My thoughts are with Don's family during this difficult time.

I had the privilege of working with Don at Connor, Clark in the early 1990s and will always remember his cheerful spirit and elegance-often leaving the office in his black tuxedo, headed for an evening of wine tasting.

We worked together for a few years at Connor, Clark. He will be fondly remembered as a very kind and gentle individual, always had words of wisdom to share and when he discovered a good wine, he made sure you knew about it. Don, you will be missed, may your soul rest in internal peace. An on old work friend, Maria Amaral-Ryves

I was very sad to see the news of Don's passing. I have known him for many years and had the privilege of meeting his father. We new each other in business many years ago and engaged many times at the RCYC . He was one of the most intelligent people I have known . My sincere condolences to his family .
