DONALD COMISH Obituary

(April 10, 1935 – February 6, 2026) Donald Lee Comish, a loving husband, father, uncle, family member and friend, died peacefully in his sleep, in the early hours of February 6th at Toronto General Hospital. A kind and remarkably positive man, Don was, above all else, a family man. He dedicated himself to his wife and five children, their 13 grandchildren, and their extended family. He was happiest spending time with family - watching or coaching the kids' sports, school activities, and hobbies, spending time with their growing families on holidays, at Sunday dinners, or in Muskoka. Beyond his family life, Don was a businessman, an avid tennis and squash player, a skier, and a lover of a "Don" martini (and, until his children put a stop to it, a good cigar). When asked how he was, Don would invariably reply "Great, Perfect" or "Terrific." And he meant it. While attending the University of Toronto, Don met Sue Davis on a blind date at a toga party, and they would spend the next 65 years building a family and life together. They were well suited to each other with similar values and a shared love of family. With Don's energy and enthusiasm and Sue's intellect and patience, they worked as a team to raise five healthy and happy kids. Born in Toronto on April 10, 1935, to Eric and Marguerite Comish, Don was the older brother of Bob Comish, who predeceased him in 2012. Don attended Etobicoke Collegiate, where he played football and joined the Simpsons Collegiate Club. Afterwards, he studied Engineering and Business at the University of Toronto, where he also played football and joined the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, meeting many of his lifelong friends. Don had a long, varied, and successful career in business. After graduating university, he joined IBM and spent the next 29 years of his career at their offices in Montreal (twice), Saint John, Ottawa, and Toronto (twice), where he became friends with many of his colleagues. When he left IBM, he went on to work at DMR Consulting, Ernst & Young, and finally, Financial Executives International (FEI) until he retired at 82. He served as Chairman of the Board at Seneca College and Young People's Theatre, and held various board positions at the Muskoka Lakes Association, Kettles Association and Dellcrest Children's Centre. Don is survived by his beloved wife and partner of 65 years, Sue Comish; their five children, Rick (Pam Hollaman), Leeanne (Gord Cutler), Michael (Susie Comish), Carolyn, and Martha (Matt Angus); a gaggle of 13 grandchildren, Rowan (Paige Franzoi), Paige, Sisley, Nikki, Lauren, Eve, Cara, Luke, Alex, Tori, Genna, Cameron, Ethan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Young for his support, the staff at The Freeman Family Day Centre at Baycrest and the staff at Toronto General Hospital. Visitation will take place at Lawrence Park Community Church, 2180 Bayview Avenue, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of Don's life will take place at Lawrence Park Community Church on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lawrence Park Community Church – General Fund or The Freeman Family Day Centre at Baycrest

Yesterday

Sue, this is for you and family.
I am now in Vancouver living in a lovely suite in Janet's new home.
I guess I have known Don since high school when I was a cheerleader and he was on the teams we were cheering for.
He was always so friendly, had kind words for all and it was fun to meet again in Muskoka. He was wonderful on the tennis court and in Bill's last year playing tennis Don was extremely helpful picking up Bill and helping him along as his dementia became a problem.
I do miss Muskoka and hope to come up to visit this summer in August for a few days.
Sending love to you all and may your memories of Don help you through this difficult time.
Love Judy

I had the pleasure of working with Don at FEI Canada for a number of years.
He was such a wonderful man and a pleasure to work with. We had a lot of laughs together and great times at our conferences. I loved listening to his stories about his family at the cottage, vacations and making Christmas baking. I loved receiving the annual family updates about his children and grandchildren. My favourite memory was at the Whistler conference with Sue and Don for his retirement celebration. Don you were one in a million!!

Dear Sue, Don has a warm and happy place in my heart. Over many decades on the tennis courts and ski hills, at the Kettles, the IBM reunions and the Whiff his presence was always a pleasure. God bless him, you and your family.
