Born September 26, 1936, in Manitoba, Donald Bain Hathaway died on July 12, 2025, in Stratford, ON. He had five younger siblings: Ann, Billy, Eva Mary, Joyce and Roy McCullough. Only Joyce survives him. The three generations sharing the Hathaway farm home had no running water, electricity or insulation. Don's one-room school experience was grades 1 - 8. Don's five children were Warren Michael, Patrick Alan, Andrew Bain, Katherine Ann and Sarah Lorraine. Michael died in 2012. Don met Mary-Ann Lark on a plane in 1989, and they married in 1999. Don joined the RCAF in 1956, became an officer in 1964, completed high school in 1963, and a B.Sc. in 1968. While Assistant Dean of Business at York University from 1970-1974, he got an MBA from York and became a Certified Management Consultant. He was awarded a Fellowship (FCMC) in 1987. Don thrived on consulting. On his own at 60, he served on boards, focussing on governance issues. He was the Founding CEO of The Ontario Centres of Excellence; The Global Risk Institute in Financial Services; and Founder and Inaugural Chair of Compute Canada. Don's volunteer life included a two-decade Scout career, various church lay positions and other community groups. Don wrote on business governance, genealogy, history, had a novel in progress, and gardened. His ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren were favourites. For 36 years, his highlight was morning coffee with Mary-Ann. Don's life celebration on September 25th, at the Wild Hog, 2785 Line 34, Stratford, ON, is from 6 - 10 p.m., with remarks at 6:45.
