HOPKINS, Dr. Donald Ross,B.A., M.A., M.D., Ph. D., F.R.C.P.C., F.C.C.P., F.R.S.(M)
Peacefully at his home in Cambridge on November 7, 2001. Donald was born in Montreal, Quebec on March 23, 1934 and was the only child of Harry Hopkins and Christina Mary Ross. He was educated at University of Toronto Schools and the University of Toronto, where he obtained his M.D. degree in 1958 and subsequently his Ph.D. in Physiology before embarking on his specialty training in internal medicine (cardiology). He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. Donald did his medical residency at the Toronto General Hospital. Upon completion he moved to Kitchener in 1966, where he established a practice in cardiology. He retired in 1997. He was a man of remarkable intellectual prowess, strong passions and convictions. He had a wide range of interests and had many friends who were experts in their fields. Provocative conversation was his forte. He was a loyal friend. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Katherine Lynn Hopkins (nee Young). He was father to Christina Marguerite Momberg of Stellenbosch, South Africa, Michael Anthony Ross, of Toronto, Meredith Anne and Jonathan Bartholomew Ross of Conestogo and grandfather of Jaden Zachery Hallman and Kathleen Momberg. He is also survived by his step-brother D. Grant Lennie and his step-son Steven Kenneth Hallman. Friends will be received at COUTTS & SON FUNERAL HOME, 96 St. Andrews St., Cambridge (519-621-1650) on Friday, November 9, 2001 from 1 p.m. until the funeral service time of 2 p.m. Rev. John Kurz officiant. A reception will follow in Coutts Family Reception Cottage. Cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Howard Society of Ontario.
