MacRAE, Donald Alexander, A.M., Ph.D., FRSC
Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, in his 91st year. Don, beloved and devoted husband for sixty-six years of the late (2005) Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) MacRae (née Malcolm). Dear brother of Jean C. Borden. Loved father of David and his wife Sheila of Princeton NJ, Charles and his wife Beth of Toronto, and Andrew and his wife Catherine of Whitby, Ontario. Loving, playful, perceptive grandfather, sadly missed by Duncan and his wife Kristine of Los Angeles, Alistair of New York, Jane in Oakville, Anne in Vancouver, and Laura and Heather of Whitby. Fondly remembered by nieces and nephews Robert (Jenny) Borden, Ann (Chuck) Bull, Perry Borden, Mary Jean (Frank) Potter, Mac (Susan) Borden, and by his many friends. Born in Halifax, NS, educated at UTS, U of T and Harvard, Dr. MacRae was Professor Emeritus of Astronomy at the University of Toronto, a former Chair of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics and Director of the David Dunlap Observatory in Richmond Hill. The family will receive friends at the MORLEY BEDFORD FUNERAL HOME, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, (2 stoplights west of Yonge Street) on Monday, December 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in EGLINTON ST. GEORGE'S UNITED CHURCH, 35 Lytton Boulevard, Toronto. A reception will follow in the church. Private interment. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Donald MacRae Scholarship in Astronomy and Astrophysics, 21 King's College Circle, Toronto M5S 3J3, or to Belmont House Foundation, 55 Belmont Street, Toronto M5R 1R1 would be appreciated.
