DONALD IAN LEVERNE "DON" MCCARTHY obituary

DONALD MCCARTHY Obituary

September 19, 1930 – March 20, 2025 Don passed away peacefully, at Sunnybrook Hospital, with his youngest daughter and his "angels" in attendance. He was born in Hornpayne, Ontario, and was predeceased by his six siblings and his wife of over 60 years, Ann (nee Casey). Don was a self-made man from humble beginnings, forging a very successful career in the Food Industry, including CEO roles at Nestle Canada, Beatrice Foods, William Neilson Dairy and George Weston Foods. Don is survived by his daughters, Suzanne (Kevin) and Jennifer; and his grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan. Don will be interred in the family plot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. There will be no visitation and a private service for immediate family only. His wish would be that you take the time to spend with your families and celebrate your time together. Many thanks to North York and Sunnybrook Hospitals and the fine doctors and nurses, who cared for him in his final days.

My wife and I knew Don and Ann when we lived in Scarborough. I wrote a number of poems for Don to read at the Nestle New Year´s party. Miss those days and miss beating him at tennis.

RIP Don! I was a frequent Temp at Beatrice in the 90's. I sat outside your office door in accounting. I remember that bronze statue of horse and cowboy on your desk. My sincere condolances to the family. Don McCarthy will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Don and Ann were in my life for close to 50 years. While I am sad to have lost both of them, I keep fond memories of our many good times together in Toronto, Lake Simcoe and Longboat Key, sharing our love of tennis, golf, theatre, concerts and movies.
Suzanne and Jennifer, may you find comfort in your sadness, knowing that Don and his beloved Annie are now resting in eternal peace together. Love, Carol
