Donald John Scott TEFFT

DONALD JOHN SCOTT TEFFT P.Eng. BSc. October 4, 1938 - February 5, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Donald J. S. Tefft, who died peacefully on February 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving supportive wife of 61 years and his three devoted children. Donald grew up in the family home in North Toronto, son of Frank Pryne Tefft and Eva Roberta Scott; brother of Gwendolyn Scott Tefft, Winona Scott Mulligan (nee Tefft) and Annabel Scott Tefft. Donald attended Davisville Public School and North Toronto Collegiate Institute (NTCI), becoming lifelong friends with Ken, Bob, Bruce S. and Bill. In his senior year at North Toronto Collegiate, Donald met high school sweetheart and life partner, Suzanne Chubb, at a high school dance held between NTCI and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institutes. Sue and Don later attended University of Toronto, Sue graduating in Social Work and Don in Civil Engineering. On June 30, 1962, Sue and Don were truly happily married. Sue and Donald began their life together, becoming proud parents of Laura Jean Thibault (nee Tefft), Andrew Scott Tefft and Frank McKinnon Tefft. With a young family to support, Donald began a rewarding and successful career as a Professional Engineer, Vice President at Philips Planning Engineering, Water Resource Manager, Environmental and Waste Management, and as an International Consulting Engineer, to name a few. In retirement, Donald continued to give back to his family and the community, sharing his technical expertise and skills with the Port Hope, Lions Head and Ottawa communities, maintaining his P.Eng. into his 85th year. Don's engineering legacies across Ontario include road works, signature bridge(s) and water towers, all still standing today. Don and Sue enjoyed 52 wonderful years with friends (Carl and Liz, Clare and Julie, Joan and Tim, Marilyn and Rob) and family at the 'Tefft Cottage' on Georgian Bay. Here, Sue and Don spent quality time with their children, Laura, Andrew and Frank, and their spouses, Bruce T., Cindy and Jiangping. Sue and Don's five grandchildren, Simon, Kia, Karl, Leah and Corey all hold fond memories of Grampa Don, from hikes on the Bruce Trail to swims in Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. The Tefft Cottage also gave Auntie Sue and Uncle Don the blessing of spending time with their eight devoted nieces and nephews, namely, Catherine Crowe (nee Chubb), Carolyn Shibata (nee Chubb), Rosemary Duiker (nee Chubb), Alan Hyland, Michelle Bell (nee Hyland), Bradley Mulligan, Katrina Mulligan and Scott Mulligan. Donald J. S. Tefft is remembered as a loyal friend and active community member, a man devoted to his family and the prosperity of future generations. Our friend Donald lives on in our memories to enjoy the diverse natural beauty of the Bruce Peninsula and forever untamed waters of Georgian Bay.
