Morna-June Morrow, Honorary Patron of Carl Orff Canada (2024)

January 25, 2025

My heart is very saddened, but also relieved that Doreen has finally found peace, after her struggles over the past few years. I first became acquainted with "Miss Hall" as she taught her first Carl Orff approach to teaching young children after returning from her study with Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman in Salzburg. Alas, at age 12, I was too old to enroll in her class at the Royal Toronto Conservatory. What she established by bringing Orff and Keetman to the University of Toronto in 1962, that led to the firm establishment of Orff Schulwerk all across North America and eventually to many other countries. She asked me in the early 1970's if there might be interest in western Canada to form a National Orff Association. I eagerly replied "yes" and she asked me to come on the National Executive as the representative from Manitoba. In 1982, Doreen was my professor when I took Level III at the University of Manitoba. Her receiving the Order of Canada when she was 92 was so very deserving as her work has benefitted teachers and children around the world. Bless you Doreen.
