Dorothy Carolyn Barrett
(nee Massey)
1926 - 2016


Carol passed away peacefully at
home in her 91st year, on December
23, 2016. She is reunited with her
beloved husband, Charlie Barrett,
who passed away in 2013. Carol
leaves her loving sons, Rick, Scott,
and David Somerville from her late
husband, George. She will also be
missed by her granddaughter, Julia
Somerville.
   Carol was born in Toronto to
Dorothy and Arnold B. Massey. She
is survived by her cherished brother,
Arnold D. Massey (Carole); his
children, Arnold Jr., Heather Dawson
(Brian), and Seana Massey (Ian
Moorhead); and great-nieces and
nephews, Phoebe, Jack, Catherine,
Tessa, and Nathan.
   Carol had a wonderful relationship
with her extended Barrett family
She leaves behind three
stepchildren, Brooke Gibson (Bob),
Robin Rhodes, and Charles Barrett
(Anna); her dear grandchildren,
Sarah Gibson, Bethany Gibson Benoy
(Glenn), Peter Gibson (Nikoo), Ben
Rhodes (Thanya), Emma Rhodes,
Borden Rhodes, Nadia Collins
(Jesse), Timothy Barrett, and
Alexandra Barrett. Carol was proud
to have 14 great-grandchildren.
   Carol graduated from Branksome
Hall, then studied dress design for
two years. She was an active
volunteer, serving on many
committees and boards, including
the CNIB, Toronto General Hospital,
The Hospital for Sick Children, IODE,
Junior League of Toronto, and
Belmont House.
   Carol and Charlie were married
almost 39 years and lived a charmed
life. They spent winters at their villa
in Mijas, Spain, and summers at their
cottage at Pointe au Baril on
Georgian Bay. Carol's favourite
hobby was art, and she created
many beautiful watercolour paintings
of the surrounding areas.
   The family would like to thank Erdine
Macalipay for her valued assistance
A memorial service will take place at
St. Simon's the Apostle Church at a
later date. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to Belmont
House, Toronto.
