CRAIG, Douglas Alexander
Peacefully at University Hospital, London on Monday, October 11, 2010, age 81. Beloved husband of Mary Ann Catherine Craig. Dear father of Donald (Janet) and Peter (Sheila). Loving grandfather of Jeffrey, Jacqueline and Douglas. Born to Douglas Craig and Ella Ogilvie, formerly Croll, in Stanford Le Hope, England in 1928. Predeceased by his brothers MacKenzie (Val) and David (Ulla;Bunny). Educated at Morrison's Academy, Crieff and Dundee College of Art in Scotland, Doug has friends and family there and around the United Kingdom. He emigrated to Canada to work for Ontario Hydro and the Toronto District School Board. After becoming Chief Architect for the Etobicoke School Board, he came to London, Ontario to serve for 17 years as Architect and Assistant Superintendent of Plant Engineering. His designs include Lester B. Pearson, Cleardale, Westmount and White Oaks Public Schools. Doug designed and built his own cottage on Hungry Island, Six Mile Lake, Muskoka. An avid sportsman, member of Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, Fanshawe Yacht Club, and Fan of Chelsea Football, he was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, Probus, OASBO, and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He had a deep and abiding love of books, opera, bridge, food and wine. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at London Health Sciences Centre. Visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London where the memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 16 at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged.
