Douglas CRETNEY Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Wayne Cretney, a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and accomplished professional, announces his passing on February 7, 2024, at Lakeridge Oshawa Hospital, following a brief illness. Born December 9, 1944, in Toronto, Ontario, to Catherine "Kay" nee Crosby and Robert Cretney, he leaves behind his sister, Nancy Sherwood (Ron). Doug will be loving remembered by his beloved wife of 42 years, Pauline; his children and stepchildren, Scott (Trish), Shane (Megan), Wendy (Simon), Jason (Elizabeth); and his grandchildren, Luke, Alexandra, Samantha, Dylan, Rachel, Carter, Michael, Brandon, Brett, and Jacob; as well as his furbaby, Puddy; and his extended family members. Professionally, Doug served as the Vice President of Operations for BPX before transitioning into a senior managerial role at TTC post-acquisition, retiring after 30 years. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Doug enjoyed life's simple pleasures. Whether attending auctions or enjoying evenings at the local pub, he found joy in the everyday. His legendary Christmas toy drive was a testament to his generosity. An avid nature enthusiast, Doug nurtured and cared for wildlife, especially his beloved backyard birds, ensuring they were well-fed throughout the winter months. His connection to the natural world was profound, reflecting his gentle and compassionate nature. At his request, a service and celebration of Doug's life has taken place. While he may be gone, Doug will forever reside in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
