DERRY, Douglas(Professor Emeritus, UBC) D. Phil, FRSC
On April 24, 2001 in Vancouver, BC. Born May 26, 1907 in Nelson, BC. Graduate of University College, University of Toronto, 1929. Douglas was a descendant of The Honourable Alexander Cross of Montreal and of John Witherspoon, a signator of the Declaration of Independence and president of the college that became Princeton University. Douglas was a Mathematics professor at the universities of Mount Allison, Brown, New Mexico, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. Predeceased by his wife Dorothie, sister Evelyn Blount of Birmingham, England, brother Stuart of Airdre, Alberta and grandson Andrew Roberts of Davis, California. Survived by his loving family, daughters Elizabeth Young (Ray) and Jane Derry, niece Rose Wilson, grandchildren Peter and Stephen Roberts, Jane Steele and Kara Young, great-grandchildren Rachael, Emma, Ryan and Macgregor. A service in celebration of Douglas' life will be held on Saturday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Anselm's Anglican Church, University Blvd., Vancouver.
