Doug was born September 8, 1933 in Dunnville, Ontario to Frank Hildebrand and Isabella Crichton. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly Ann (Zavitz); his children, Patricia Wiley (Brian), Todd Hildebrand (Marilyn), and David Hildebrand; grandchildren, Alex Hildebrandt Allison (Dustin), Danielle Latchford (Brad), and Amy Hildebrand (Dylan); great-granddaughter, Nora Latchford; sister-in-law, Jen Zavitz; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Doug was predeceased by his sister, Hazel Day 2011 (Roy d. 2003); sister-in-law, Barbara Grover 2013 (Harry d. 2020); brother-in-law, Robert Zavitz 2015 (Jen); and nephew, Bruce Day 2019. Doug grew up in Port Colborne, Ontario. His much-loved lifetime career with Canada Cement started with a connection made when he was an Air Cadet in his teenage years. After high school he continued serving with the local Air Cadet Squadron as an RCAF Officer and as the units Chief Instructor. In 1959 he completed his CGA designation and in 1962 was offered a position in Montreal at Head Office which was the first of many moves for the Hildebrand family. Doug's association with Canada Cement and its successor, Lafarge Canada, spanned more than 50 years and saw the family experience five provinces and many, many relocations as his career flourished. He finally retired in 1986 as Vice-President but remained on the Board of Directors of Lafarge Canada for another 16 years. On retiring, Doug swapped the hectic life of a corporate executive and city living for that of a hobby farmer when he and Bev moved back to Ontario. He stayed on the farm for 12 years but also operated a small financial consulting business in Cambridge. Doug also became a charter member of a newly formed Probus Club in Cambridge and subsequently served as Treasurer, Vice-President and finally President. He also joined a business advisory group that provided guidance to a number of small businesses in the area and still found time for curling at the Galt Country Club. After moving to Dundas in 1997 Doug became a curling member of the Dundas Valley Golf & Curling Club for a number of years and also a member of Branch 36 Royal Canadian Legion in Dundas. Doug was very fortunate to have a long and healthy retirement of 36 years, giving him many happy times with family and friends. Doug and Bev enjoyed travelling, which included many cruises and visits to over 40 countries. With daughter, Patty, living in Australia their travels included numerous trips "downunder", spending the last number of winters enjoying the Australian sun. Doug will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. A private Celebration of Life will be held at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens, Fonthill, Ontario on Wednesday, June 29th followed by an additional Reception to be held in Dundas later in the year.
