Douglas KING Obituary

Douglas M. King March 30, 1940- November 11, 2023 Douglas passed away peacefully at home in Burlington, ON. Doug leaves behind the love of his life for 57 years, Betty; his two sons, Scott (Deborah) and Darrell (Tracy). He was a cherished "Poppy" to Claire and Ellie; and "PopPop" to Matthew and Emmie. Doug was predeceased by his sister, Toni; and brother-in-law, Donald. He was a brother-in-law to Irene, Henry (Andra) and Ray. Doug was a loving uncle to many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Doug was an industry builder, the ultimate salesman and business leader. He purchased his first business in 1976, and acquired and started several others over his career. He was adored and respected by hundreds of employees, countless customers and suppliers. Known to his friends and colleagues as the man who would never stop working, Doug finally did retire in 2013 and found new passions to pursue in Muskoka and Florida, where he enjoyed playing golf and fostering friendships old and new. Doug could liven up any room with his intelligent wit and thoughtful banter. He was the most trusted advisor for those who reached out for his counsel. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19th from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line, Burlington. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Port Nelson United Church, 3132 South Drive, Burlington. The big match of March 2022! Robbie still talks about all the fun he had in Bonita Bay visiting Doug & Bunny (as he calls Betty) - not sure who had more fun here given the giant smiles and non-stop laughs with Doug & Robbie :)
Robbie´s little sister (our Betty) was so fortunate to meet Doug too this past February in BB. We all miss seeing Doug on our trips down south and telling jokes & stories of our families over the years.

Our deepest condolences, Stephie, Dave, Robbie & Betty

I have long maintained you meet the nicest people through golf. I have had the pleasure of knowing Doug through the game of golf for 20+ years through our ties at Rocky Crest. A kinder, generous man you will not find. My sincere condolences are extended to Betty and the rest of the family. Doug and Betty were the consummate couple at all times. I wonder how many tees Doug has collected from the first tee at RC? He said his top drawer was full as he tried to corner the market and sell them back to ClubLink.

We will miss you Doug as a model of business success. It was a joy to be involved with Doug as board members of the Canadian Gift and Tableware Association. Always a very keen golfer and well liked member of Rocky Crest
Golf Club.
Rest In Peace

My Bonita Bay dad I will miss you so much. You always brought such amazing humour to every room you walked into. I will cherish the hilarious emails you´ve sent Steve and I over the years. We were reading them yesterday laughing and crying. RIP dad.
