DOUGLAS LAMB Obituary

(March 24, 1947 - July 3, 2025) It is with profound sadness we announce that Doug passed away peacefully, on July 3, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer and lung fibrosis. Doug was born March 24, 1947, to Helen Dyment Lamb and Max Morland Lamb. Doug is survived by sons, David (Lisa), Geoffrey (Maggie) and Sean (Stephanie); stepchildren, Erik (Joanna) and Ashley; grandchildren, Keenan, Tristan, Teddy, Charlie, Simone, Halle, Olivia, Jacob, Taylor, Shalayne, Caelen and Liam; sisters, Karen Betteridge (Rick) and Judy Lamb-Jacobs (Gordon); and his niece and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his loving wife, Gloria; and parents, Max and Helen. Doug grew up in Toronto and was a proud alumnus of Whitney Public School, Upper Canada College, Queen's University and The University of Western Ontario. Doug was a passionate person who put his heart into everything he did. He lived a fulfilling life and would do anything for his family and friends. Doug shared over 20 incredible years with his wife, Gloria, involving many card games, laughter, amazing experiences and family traditions. Doug will be fondly remembered as: Chartered Accountant; Financial Planner; athlete; hockey coach; advisor; card player; sharing Balsam Lake with family and friends; driving his checker cab around town; his witty sense of humour and being an avid sports fan, particularly of the Toronto Maple Leafs. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held from 2 - 5 p.m. on August 11th at The Granite Club, located at 2350 Bayview Ave., Toronto, in the Ballroom. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask for donations to St. Michaels Hospital, which provided exceptional care for Doug (especially Dr. Ko and Dr. McIntyre) or The Hospital for Sick Children which was an important and special place to Doug.

Doug was a wonderful, kind , warm human. He was a loving devoted Dad. We met at a time when our individual lives were being tested with betrayal and heartbreak and health issues. We became deep friends. I was with him through his heart attack recovery in Sunnybrook CCU and after at his parents condo.
They were intense times of fear , tears and tenderness. He was a strong, passionate person who experienced life deeply.
Healing broken families took time and commitment. We stayed in touch and I was grateful he found a good life with Gloria and sad when he was alone again.
I remain thankful for what we shared.
David , Geoffrey and Sean I´m so very grateful you shared your lives with a wonderful Dad. Cherish the memories.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Doug. He and Gloria were my neighbours for many years. I used to help Doug and Gloria out even putting up Christmas lights. Unfortunately I broke a few and Doug declined to ask me for future holidays and he always loved to remind me of the incident. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very sad time.

This was sad news. I have been thinking of all the family, recalling stories of Doug's Dad, Max, his Uncle Cuthbert and my Dad in their growing-up years summering on Balsam Lake, sharing family gatherings and shenanigans, remembering Doug's incredible smile, his warmth and tremendous kindness towards my Mother when my Dad passed, honouring Doug and our shared ancestry. Rest in peace.

I´m so very sad to learn of Doug´s passing. I would like extend my sincerest condolences to the members his family. I only knew Doug for a period of one year - his first year at Queen´s University - when we were on the same floor together in residence. I remember him - "Digger" as we called him - as very engaging, very funny, and very considerate of the others on our floor.

He was a big Maple Leafs fan and I was a big Detroit Red Wings fan and he would often come into my room every morning to check the latest standings that I continuously updated on the bulletin board on my room. That summer - the summer of Expo - my best memory of him was suddenly showing up unannounced at my parents house in rural Eastern Ontario with a live-size cardboard cutout of Gordie Howe for me - which I kept for years and years.

Regrettably, I lost touch with Digger after that year and never was able to re-connect with him. But the memory of those times will longer on.

Doug and his very young family were our next door neighbours in Leaside for many years. I remember his cheerful nature and mischievous sense of fun. So do my kids! I am very saddened by this news and send my condolences to his three sons whom we knew so well. Nancy Purvis

Doug was my older cousin by more than three years. Although I played more with my cousin Judy who was closer in age, I always looked up to Doug as being "cool and fun". My memories of being with Doug (and Karen and Judy) on Rosedale Heights Drive and at Balsam Lake, and Aunt Helen and Uncle Max are endearing and meaningful. I was so glad and grateful to be able to spend time with Doug at my husband's and my 50th anniversary celebration.
