DOUGLAS RISHOR Obituary
(August 12, 1940 - January 4, 2026) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Noel Rishor in his 85th year. Doug passed where he was happiest, at Clear Lake, in Ontario, where the Rishor Family has had a cottage since the early 1900s. Beloved husband to Sigrid (née Gustafsson) for 59 years; and devoted father to Niklas, David (Jennifer) and Charles (Jenny), "Pa" was extraordinarily proud of his grandchildren, Reece, Leif, Blane, Charlotte, Sam and Alexandra. A great judge of character, Doug was a natural conversationalist who took an immediate and genuine interest in everyone he met. These sensibilities permeated all facets of his life and helped ensure success in his endeavors. Doug spent the majority of his career in real estate, first as a Vice President at Rishor Barnes & Dietrich Limited then as President of Douglas Rishor Real Estate. He had a deep commitment to the real estate profession as exemplified by the numerous board and volunteer positions he held. Whether it was as the President of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Association of Realtors, the President of The Canadian National Association of Real Estate Appraisers (CNAREA), Chairman of the Appraisal Foundation Advisory Council and the International Valuation Council based in Washington, DC, or mentoring a colleague, it was second nature for him to give back to others in his profession. In his personal life he was no different. Sent to Lakefield College School as an 11-year-old boarder in 1951, known simply as "the school" as he lovingly referred to it, LCS always held an important part of Doug's attention. He acted as a Board Member, a Trustee and was tireless champion for the school. Music and the arts were passions that Doug put his time, energy and charisma behind - serving as President of The Ontario Federation of Symphony Orchestras and acting as a Director for both The Peterborough Symphony Orchestra and The Association of Canadian Orchestras. As much as Doug loved going to concerts and visiting galleries with Sigrid, he was most content to share the small joys of daily life with her. Their fairytale romance that saw Sigrid leave Sweden to come to Canada, was an inspiration. Doug was a people person who built amazing relationships with everyone he met because of his down-to-earth approach to life, his generosity and his love of people. He will be greatly missed. Please consider making a donation to The Peterborough Symphony Orchestra in Doug's memory. We look forward to a celebration of his life in the Summer of 2026.
