DUNCAN DURHAM Obituary
(May 11, 1938 – October 17, 2025) Duncan, much more commonly and affectionately known as Dunc, Dad, Uncle Dunc, or Gramps, died peacefully, at Toronto General Hospital, on October 17, 2025, surrounded by family. Dunc was born May 11, 1938, in Hamilton, and raised in London. He moved to Toronto in 1958 to attend the University of Toronto in the Faculty of Pharmacy. It was there that one of few young women in the Faculty of Pharmacy caught his eye, and four years later, Dunc and Elaine were married on October 6, 1962, beginning 63 years together as true partners in a life filled with love, laughter, and happiness. Shortly after graduation, Dunc joined his father-in-law at Brisbois Pharmacy, where he would spend the next 35 years of his career – first as employee, then partner, then owner/operator with Elaine. He was active in the Metro Toronto Pharmacist Association and served as President in 1984. After retiring, he worked part-time in several independent pharmacies, giving those pharmacists something he knew they wanted and needed – time; time with family, time to travel, and time to recover from illness. He also served as a Board Member for the CUMBA Charitable Foundation beginning in 1998, going on to become Chair from 2005-2010. During his time as Chair the organization took great pride in their support of local children's charities. As much as he made a great contribution professionally, by far his biggest contribution was in how he enriched the lives of his family and many friends – he took a very active interest in them all. Whether it was coaching his children's teams, volunteering as league convenor, holding great dinner parties with Elaine (that frequently went well into the night), hosting very lively gatherings at the cottage, travelling the world with friends, or attending grandkid activities – he made time for everyone. Dunc will be forever remembered by his family and very large circle of friends for his quick wit, his trademark smile, his love of travel, and for making every occasion more fun and more memorable for all. While he will be terribly missed by all of us, fortunately he left us enough memories to last several lifetimes. Dunc is survived by his wife, Elaine (nee Brisbois); sister, Robin Gorman of Edmonton; and son, Rob (Jennifer). He is the beloved Gramps to grandkids, Brittany (Jordan), James, Emily, Sydney, and Natasha (Diogo); and great-grandchildren, Max and Zach. He was predeceased by his father, Russell; mother, Janet; and sons, Dave and Chris (Jennifer). Dunc is in the care of the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto, ON M4R 1A8. Visitation is Friday, October 24th, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. The Funeral is Sunday, October 26th, at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Children's Aid Foundation or Alzheimer Society of Canada.
