McDONALD, Professor Duncan Joseph, Rhodes Scholar
Died at his home in Flagstaff, AZ on January 24, 2005 in his 85th year. Born and raised on the family farm in Glen Nevis, Glengarry County in Easter Ontario, he began his brilliant career as a meteorologist for the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Goose Bay during WWII. Subsequently, as a geneticist for the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission in Japan, he researched the effects of the atomic bomb; as an entomologist for the British Government Locust Control Commission, he worked in Kenya; as a professor, he lectured at St. John's College, MD and Middlebury College, VT. Predeceased by his parents Roderick J. and Annie Sarah, and by his siblings John, Donald, Sr. Margaret, Sr. Emily, Ranald, and Angus, Duncan is survived by his brothers Dr. Hugh (Dr. Avis) and Dr. Alex (Kaye) and by numerous loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews as well as close friends the world over. At his request there will be no memorial service. His light burns brightly in the memories of those who loved him.
