E. DAVID DOVER December 14, 1933 - December 1, 2020 David Dover passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at the age of 86, with his wife Frances Jackson Dover and youngest daughter Sarah Dover by his side. He was predeceased by his mother, Lt.-Col. Mary Dover, father Maj. Melville Grant Dover and stepson Drew Peacock. He is survived by his other three children, grandson David Jackson, extended family including John Cross (CorryAnn Struik), Hiromi Suzuki and a treasured circle of friends. David was a successful entrepreneur and served the business community as President of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Calgary Economic Development Authority, Director of the Calgary Tourist & Convention Bureau, and Member of the University of Calgary Management Advisory Board. He had a lifelong passion for flying, which included serving as the Chairman of the Board of the Calgary Airport Authority and Canadian Airports Council and as a member of the federal Civil Aviation Tribunal. David believed in the importance of military service and was delighted to be appointed the Honourary Colonel of the 416 Tactical Fighter Squadron at CFB Cold Lake. Earlier in life, his military service included participation in the Canadian Officer Training Corps at UBC and training at CFB Shilo in Brandon, Manitoba. He was also a Director of the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary. To those who knew him, David was a beguiling story teller and enduring jokester. He and his wife enjoyed hosting friends and family at their beautiful garden known as Oksi Hill or Dover Gardens, which is a tribute to Alberta's natural heritage. David was the Chair of the Board of Governors at Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School and was one of the founding directors of the Foundation. For those who may be inclined, the family is requesting that donations to the school be made in David's name.
