EACHERN WILTON "WIL" TRANTER obituary

EACHERN TRANTER Obituary

(September 16, 1937 – December 25, 2025) We are deeply saddened to share the peaceful passing of Wil on December 25, 2025, at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, at the age of 88. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, to Herb and Mae Tranter; where he spent his early years before setting out on a life defined by curiosity, connection, and adventure. He eventually settled in Toronto, making his home in North York with his beloved wife, Judy, where together they built a life full of faith, family, and friendship over 52 years of marriage. Wil's life unfolded in many chapters, each shaped by his love of learning and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years he wore many hats, serving as a swim instructor and coach, a high school guidance counsellor and mentor, a triathlon race director, an international tour leader, and the owner and operator of Kawartha Kayaking Tours. Wil had a rare ability to connect on a deeper level with people, cherishing one-on-one conversations, where he could ask meaningful questions and offer his undivided attention. He was never happier than when he was outdoors or on the move. He found deep joy kayaking the waters of Stony Lake, travelling internationally in search of new experiences, and skiing well into his 85th year. A devoted Christian and man of deep faith, Wil lived his beliefs through service, generosity, and a lifelong commitment to volunteering in his community. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his son, Chad, and daughter-in-law, Maria; his cherished grandchildren, Jacobie and Boden; and his brother, Glenn Tranter, and sister-in-law, Connie; and many nieces and nephews. Wil will be remembered for his larger-than-life stories, his unmistakable whistle, and his gift for conversation. He was a loyal friend, a committed volunteer, an adventurer at heart, and above all, a devoted family man who took great pride in those he loved. Wil's legacy will live on in the stories shared, the waters paddled, the slopes skied, and the countless lives he touched along the way. I am Peter Berneys younger daughter. I have such great memories with Uncle Wil. He truly was like family for me. I'm grateful for his whistle at my wedding! And for the times we spent on the ski hill, or on the lake. I know my dad is so lucky to have had Uncle Wil as his best friend all those years. If I wasn't so pregnant and due soon I would have been there in person. We will miss you Uncle Wil.

Hi Judy, Chad & Maria, Glenn & Connie and all your families, sincere sympathy to you all at this very sad time. I will remember Wil with great fondness and looked forward to our conversations after summer services at St. Peter's on-the-Rock in Stony Lake. Wil had the most endearing ability to make you feel like you were just the person he wanted to chat with in the moment. His warmth, broad smile and enthusiasm for life were memorable. He will be missed and I am so sorry for your loss.

Hello Judy and family!

I am sorry to read that Wil has left this "mortal coil" that we sometimes call EARTH.

I was so pleased to reconnect with you and your dear husband and partner after we were no longer in the teaching profession and I always delighted chatting with Wil over various topics at the North York YMCA, and I really enjoyed the various dinners with both of you at our respective homes.
Wil was very kind and decent man and I found his zest for life very genuine and refreshing.

with us on this mortal coil we call EARTH.

It was a great pleasure to have reconnected with you and Wil after our brief time together at Northview

Wil was a consummate visionary....he saw a little island on Stony Lake that had his name on it and made it into his summer home, becoming a much sought after canoe partner in all the summer regatta's. I first met Wil at the Y as the senior boys swim coach...then as a fellow islander on Stony...his pride over becoming Judy's husband and Chad's Dad...it really is the end of an era with the passing of Wil...my condolences to Judy, Chad and family. Dear Judy,
Bob and I are thinking of you at this sad time. We will miss Wil´s smiling greeting each time we met, either on the ski hills in Vernon, or occasionally in Collingwood.

Dear Judy - I was saddened to learn of Wil's passing. I remember first meeting Wil in the late.70's at Bathurst Hts. S.S.and our paths then crossed a bit later at Spring Garden. While life events took me other places, it was always nice to periodically hear of you and Wil from others in the Spring Garden community. Unexpectantly bumping in to you a few years ago at a Ride for Refuge event on your bikes was pleasant surprise and good reminder to stay active.
Please accept my sincere condoldences at this time.

Wil was, for many, the face of Stoney Lake. I first knew of him when he founded and directed the Stoney Lake Triathlon, but there were many other meetings when we were greeted by a smile and a warm conversation. Only a few summers ago my wife and I were out for a walk on our cottage road when Judy and Will came by, hell bent for leather, on bikes. It seems there were always kayaks and canoes lining the Tranter's island. Our whole community will miss him. Our best to Judy and Chad.

Will was a devoted ski buddy on the Silver Star Mountain for which I will miss the smiling face each morning as we donned ski boots and warm clothing to face the ski runs and the winter elements. Ski into the heavens Will.
