Edna BEATTY Obituary
BEATTY, Edna Mae (Sawyer)
On Thursday, October 31, 2002, Edna passed peacefully, at the Port Hope Community Nursing Home, in her 90th year.
Edna was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1966; by her brothers Albert and Percy, whom she loved and admired from childhood; and by her sisters Elsie, Irene, and Vera who was her favourite and devoted younger sister.
Edna was a proud, gentle, dedicated and loving mother to her only son, Jim. She was a warm, generous and loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews, Doreen, Isabel, Marilyn, Kenny and Eileen. She extended her kindness beyond the immediate family to her favourite boys, Al, the Humph, Giff and Jay. They were always welcome in the house and their lives were to be followed with interest and support.
Edna served as grade mother at Bedford Park Public School and at Upper Canada College. She also supported Meals on Wheels for over 40 years, delivering daily. At night, she knitted for the Canadian Save the Children Fund.
A dedicated Anglican, Edna was beloved at her parish, St. Leonard's, serving in her later years on the advisory, though always feeling inadequate in that capacity.
Her generosity was always most evident at giving occasions, and, to her, Christmas was most important. Puddings needed to be made, cakes, mince tarts created for all extended family members, and of course, she quietly controlled the hosting of Christmas dinner until the last.
While her grandchildren, Sydney and Sandy, did not know her, her Christian values, belief in the equality of all people, her generosity and integrity in human relationships, will be passed on.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at the Community Center in Port Hope for their kind caregiving over the past ten years.
A Service of Remembrance will be held in the chapel of the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A. W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), on Monday afternoon, November 4 at 2:30 o'clock. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Church of St. Leonard, 25 Wanless Avenue, Toronto M4N 1V5.
