EDWARD JAMES PAMENTER

EDWARD PAMENTER Obituary

September 21, 1937 – July 28, 2025 Dr. Edward James Pamenter, M.D., died peacefully, with his children at his side. Ed lived and left on his own terms. Predeceased by his wife, Lou (nee Taylor), the love of his life, in 2024. He leaves behind son, Andrew (Deb); daughter, Kate (Ed); and grandsons, Cameron, Calum, Spencer and Eric. Brother to Carol and David (Terri), Shirley and Ruth. Born and raised in East Toronto, educated at U of T, and was a family doctor in Thornhill for 32 years. Ed and Lou moved to Port Hope. They continued to be active in the community and their garden. The restoration of their home occupied Ed's early time in Port Hope as did work with the ACO. A capable man of many talents, Ed was always active: gardening, woodworking, rugmaking, restoring furniture or buildings, travelling, reading, patching jeans. Ed had a keen interest to learn and solve problems. He was gentle, practical and moved confidently through life with a sense of humour. He will be missed by his family and friends. There will be no service. If you would like to make a donation, please consider supporting your local community.

The Wilkes family have many memories of how caring and supportive Dr Pamenter was ( two parents six children make for a lot of memories). I( Chris) can still picture his office in the old house on Centre Street

Dr Pamenter was THE best family doctor one could ever have hoped for! As a 10 year old, there was no "hoping" for a doctor but I certainly felt great comfort and had faith in his care. For 22 years that care continued with a side order of humour and wise words seeing me through 2 pregnancies and deliveries, a miscarriage, then part way through a third pregnancy when we decided I would switch to a doctor in Barrie where we had moved. I will forever be grateful to Dr Pamenter for his down to earth caring manner and the wise words shared and never forgotten. A great listener, too!! May he rest in peace and his family find comfort in all the memories!

Doctor Pamenter treated me and my whole family for many years and I loved going to see him. We always had great conversations, whether about furniture, needlework or any random topic, he made me feel very comfortable and never rushed. What a wonderful man
