Edward SCHERLE Obituary

EDWARD WALLACE SCHERLE A wonderful man has left us with beautiful memories. Edward (Ted) Wallace Scherle, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed peacefully surrounded by family at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington on April 8, 2023. He was a loving husband, married for 53 years to Roseamond (nee Virtue) Scherle; father of Jennifer Scherle; Joey and husband, Mike Cowan; David and wife, Stephanie Scherle. He is remembered as a fun-loving grandfather to George, Alexander, Christian Marschall; Emily, Will, Claire, Scott Cowan; Taylor, Sienna, Preston Scherle. Ted graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1968, and a Masters degree in Business in 1969. His business sense and charismatic personality helped him excel in the automotive industry. He bought his first dealership in 1978, Brantford Plymouth Chrysler. In 1981, Ted bought a small dealership on Fairview Street in Burlington, Fairview Datsun, which then became Burlington Nissan. In 1993, he became the owner of Burlington Toyota. He was recognized and very proud of being awarded the Maclean's magazine Dealer of Excellence for his business achievements and community involvement. He was so proud of his dealerships and employees whom he treated like family. In his later years, he continued to visit the dealerships to reminisce. Ted was a well-respected member of the Burlington community. He enjoyed his time with his many friends in Burlington, Muskoka and Naples. He always enjoyed taking anyone on in a game of cards and at times enjoyed a round of golf! Everyone who knew Ted would remember him as always having a joke in his pocket to put a smile on people's faces. Ted loved life. He was known for his generosity and kind-hearted nature. He was an honest, genuine and most importantly, loving man. Ted always said that family and friends are what matter most in life. He will be with us forever in our hearts. We would like to thank Dr. Tim Cuddy and Dr. Ian Darcel for the excellent care over the years. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of the QEW), Burlington (905-632-3333) on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception and time of fellowship. If desired, memorial contributions to the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
