Edward WEBSTER Obituary
ED WEBSTER B. COMM., C.P.A. - C.A. It is with a mixture of profound sadness and gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward William Webster on Saturday, April 29, at the age of 100, surrounded by his loving family. He took the welcoming hand of his Lord and was reunited with Pauline, the love of his life. Ed will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and humour. He was a true gentleman and an inspiring role model for his children and grandchildren. Forever optimistic, his enthusiasm for life, bright and inquisitive mind, gentle wisdom and twinkle in his eye will be fondly remembered by his friends and members of the extended Hannan and Webster families. Uncle Ed was greatly admired and respected by his many nieces and nephews. Born in Toronto in 1923, he spent most of his life in Leaside and Islington. He attended De La Salle 'Oaklands' for high school and then St. Michael's College to earn his Bachelor of Commerce and Chartered Accountant degrees from the University of Toronto. After marrying Pauline in 1946, they moved to Islington to raise their growing family. Very active in St. Gregory's parish and the Michael Power Dad's Club, he also served as a trustee for the Metro Separate School Board for many years. Ed enjoyed summers at St. George's Golf Club and spent many winters skiing with the family at Craigleith. With his background in finance and his entrepreneurial spirit, he owned several very successful businesses. Devoted to his family, he took great pleasure in providing active and exciting holidays. There was never a more proud father and grandfather, always there to celebrate his growing family's many accomplishments. They brought him incredible joy and he knew that he would live on in them. Predeceased by his adoring wife, Pauline, they were together for 73 years. Also predeceased by dear sisters, Marjorie Kavanagh and Doris Van Houten; and much loved grandson, Michael. Loving and supportive father, forever missed by Jo-Anne Wolfe (David), Bill, Jim (Celia) and Tom (Marnie). Beloved grandfather of Katie Mullen (Tim), Maggie, Jamie, Danny (Kat) and Nicole Robey (Dennis). Adored by his eight great-grandchildren. Our family's grief is tempered by our cherished memories, grateful for the wonderful life he made for himself and us. A beautiful spirit freed of a body grown too weary. As per Ed's wishes, there will be no visitation and a private, family funeral Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, Ed's memory will be best honoured by performing a random act of kindness, as he would have done.
