At the Elgin Manor, R.R.#1, St. Thomas, Ontario on Friday, August 13, 2004. Dr. Edwin L. Brown, formerly of St. Thomas, beloved husband of Valetta (Squance) Brown, in his 90th year. Dearly loved father of C. J. 'Kit' Brown and his wife Yolande of St. Thomas, Linda Brown of St. Hubert, Quebec and Janet and her husband Dr. Ken Dymock of Oakville. Cherished grandfather of Anne Thompson, Cathy Brown, Steven Ryan, Simon Dymock, Laura Dymock, Karen O'Neil and Kristen Nesbitt. Loved great-grandfather of Meghan, Caleigh, Ryan, Tyler, Bryten, Tryton and Alysha. Also survived by sister- in-law, Eileen Squance of Brantford and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers, John 'Jack' and Earl Brown. Born in St. Thomas, December 25, 1914, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Barton) Brown. He was a graduate of the St. Thomas Collegiate Institute and the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Medicine (1940). He was the recipient of the Alpha Kappa Kappa gold medal for the highest standing in his class in his final year and was class valedictorian. In addition, he was presented with the Medical Alumni gold medal for the highest standing in his 6th year. Dr. Brown practiced family medicine in St. Thomas from 1941-1982. He served as Chief of Staff of the Memorial Hospital and the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital for 17 years. He was a member of Centre St. Baptist Church, St. Thomas where he formerly served as a deacon, chairman of the Board of Management and member of the building committee. Dr. Brown was a Past President of the Lion's Club of St. Thomas, a former member of the Board of Directors of Alma College and served on the Board of Education for the City of St. Thomas. There will be no public visitation at the funeral home. A public memorial service will be held at Centre St. Baptist Church (Centre & Southwick Streets), St. Thomas on Friday, August 20th at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Brown's cremated remains will be interred privately in Elmdale Memorial Park, St. Thomas. Memorial donations to the charity of one's choice gratefully acknowledged. The Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas entrusted with arrangements.
