Edwin KLINE Obituary
REV. EDWIN J. KLINE, CSB Peacefully with his fellow Basilian Fathers at Presentation Manor on November 27, 2018. Fr. Ed was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 21, 1927. He was predeceased by his parents, Leonard Kline and Irene Theisen; as well as by his sister, Janet. He is survived by his sister, Joann; his eight nieces and nephews; and his many great-nieces and great-nephews. While at college Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army. After his military service he returned to college to complete his engineering degree. Fr. Ed entered the Congregation of St. Basil in 1951 and was ordained in 1956. His priestly ministry was mostly in education. He was principal at St. Anne's Elementary School in Houston and served as a teacher at Basilian schools in Rochester (NY), Gary (IN), Jackson (MI), Novi (MI) and Oakland (CA). After his years of teaching Fr. Ed served for 18 years in parish ministry in Calgary, Owen Sound, Amherstburg and Saskatoon. He finished a long life of active service by returning to teach at Detroit Catholic Central. From there he moved to the Basilian Fathers' Retirement Residence in Toronto. Fr. Ed loved his life as a religious and a priest. In his own words: 'I have counted at least 25 moves since joining the Basilians. It's been a great adventure.' Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. Funeral Mass on Monday, December 3, in the chapel of Presentation Manor, 61 Fairfax Crescent, Scarborough, Ontario. Burial will be at the Basilian plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, ON. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Basilian Fathers Retirement Fund, 95 St. Joseph Street, Toronto, ON M5S 3C2.
