EGBERT PFISTERER Obituary

Dr. Egbert Pfisterer, Dipl.Ing., PhD, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2025, surrounded by family. Born May 4, 1938, in Vienna, Austria, he spent his childhood years growing up in the province of Carinthia. He went on to attend the University of Agriculture, Vienna, where he graduated with a degree in biochemical engineering and a Ph.D. in 1967. As part of his studies, he worked in breweries in Austria, Germany and Sweden, honing his passion for the art of brewing. In 1968 after obtaining a position as a research scientist at Labatt's Breweries, Egbert immigrated to Canada, joining his siblings, Erich and Inge. It was in London, Ontario, where he would meet his future wife, Janet, marrying in 1969. In 1980 he accepted a position with Molson's in Montreal, relocating to Toronto in 1981, where he continued his career in brewing, eventually becoming the Director of Research and Development. His contributions to the industry include being involved with the implementation of brewing Coors and Coors Light in Canada, work on a non-alcoholic brewing process, and online alcohol measurement in addition to his many publications. Egbert was also involved with the Master Brewer's Association of the Americas where, he was well known for knowledge, kindness and above all, his sense of humour. In 1996, he was awarded the Award of Merit by the association for his contributions to the brewing industry. As a former ski instructor in his youth in Austria and a lover of sports, he passed his love of skiing, tennis, and sailing on to his sons. Egbert also had a great love for the Canadian outdoors and made many happy memories camping and fishing in the Georgian Bay, as well as backyard barbecues with family, friends, and his beloved cats. Egbert is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons, Karl and Paul; and his sister, Inge. He will be deeply missed by his family, many friends and colleagues from the industry. Please join us to remember Egbert over a beer with family and friends. A celebration of life is scheduled for 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on August 7, 2025, at GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co., 18825 Shaws Creek Road, Alton, ON L7K 1L3. I met Egbert in 1988 when I was 17 at The Austrian Club in Toronto and would marry his eldest son, Karl in 1998. Egbert was the best emcee a couple could have asked for at their wedding reception! Egbert was definitely one in a million for his humour, his generosity and the mischievous twinkle in his eye when telling a funny story. My last private goodbye with him was him sitting up in the hospital bed and eating fresh raspberries with me and talking. Our time together ended with a big wet kiss on my right cheek. The stars in the night sky are twinkling even brighter now with him up there. With love your daughter-in-law, Katie Pfisterer. God Bless.

First time I´ve read Egbert´s obituary. The sentiment conveyed encapsulates exactly how I remember him -a gentleman who carried on a fine German tradition of the finest beer known. My sincerest sympathies to lovely Janet whose grace will help her in her loss and a hug to Karl und Paul as they process their sorrow and a special consideration to my sister-Katherine Pfisterer (nee Wieltschnigg) daughter in-law to Egbert as I know how deeply affected she is with his passing. May God bless you all at this difficult time. Franzel
