DR. EHOR WILLIAM GAUK, MSM, MD, FRCPC February 22, 1935 - November 04, 2022 Ehor William Gauk, Professor Emeritus (University of Alberta), moved gracefully from this world to the next on November 4th, 2022, aged 87, with family by his side. He is survived by his brother, Orest; sister, Gloria (Wallace Shoemay); son, Stephen; daughters, Rachel (Doug Latimer) and Cathrine (Mark Husken); and his wife of 30 years, Dr. Julianna Nagy; as well as his beloved dog, Amiga. He leaves 3 granddaughters, Claudia, Anika, and Erin; 3 grandsons, Lucas, Ian, and Aidan; 5 nephews and their spouses; grandnieces, great-grandnieces and nephews; as well as numerous cousins, friends, and colleagues in Canada, the USA, Ukraine, China and Australia. Ehor was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, on February 22, 1935, and spent an idyllic first ten years in the hamlet of Yellow Creek. The family then moved to Prince Albert to pursue better business and educational opportunities. He attended university in Saskatoon, but completed his medical degree in Winnipeg, Manitoban, in 1958. His residency training involved year-long stints in Edmonton, Toronto, Chicago and London, England. Qualified as a paediatrician, with special training in neurology, he started his career in Edmonton, AB, in 1964 and continued to work there for the next 55 years. He raised his family of three children with his first wife, Doreen Ronaghan, and started a tremendous orchid collection. He expanded his medical practice in the 1990s by becoming involved in international medical education, first in China, then Ukraine (OsVita Medical Project) and finally in Uganda. He met many wonderful colleagues who became friends and stayed in touch even after his retirement. He filled his retirement with family, travel, tennis and socializing. As his health began to limit his physical activities, he focused on keeping in touch with his worldwide network of friends, staying at the leading edge of computer technology as well as world events and enjoying his home in Parksville, BC. He took great joy from watching the lives of his children, grandchildren and three generations of nephews and nieces unfold. He felt blessed by the love of his family until his last moments of life. His family gives special thanks to Dr. S. Eliason (Family Physician), the Palliative Care teams who helped him endure his transition phase due to cancer and to the team of Dr. D. Candler and Karen Westra, RN. To see a video of Ehor's life, view via:
