ELAINE HILL Obituary
The family is saddened to announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elaine Hill, who died in her 99th year on August 19, 2025, in Niagara Falls. Elaine was the loving wife of the late Frederick Hill Jr., with whom she shared 71 years of marriage. She was a devoted mother to Joanna (Philip), Fred (Barb), Christopher, Tim, Dana (Elena), and Kathleen Rose (predeceased). Elaine is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Kathleen (David), Patrick (Amanda), Jeffrey (Ingrid), Emily, Spencer, Eric (Emilie), Madeline, Michelle, and Dana Jr. She was a proud great-grandmother to Chelsea, Claire, William, Benjamin, Henry, Oliver, Grace, and Jack. Elaine was born and raised in Toronto to Henry Alfred Hopkins and Dora Lydia Mary Trina (Otte), and is predeceased by her sister, Lucy Browning. She is survived by her sister, Paula Rice, of Calgary. During the Second World War, as a teenager, Elaine and her sister worked in the Farm Service Force to fill the gap left by the men who had gone off to war. Elaine trained at St. Michael's School of Nursing and earned a scholarship in public health from the University of Toronto. She worked as a dedicated public health nurse with the Victorian Order of Nurses in Toronto. Elaine was a lifelong learner with a sharp mind and deep curiosity. She had a passion for reading - sharing stories with her grandchildren and staying up to date with business and current affairs well into her later years. She also had a great love for nature and animals, always finding joy in the outdoors and helping creatures big and small. Together, Elaine and Fred shared a love of travel, including a round-the-world trip in 1955. They enjoyed many family adventures and sailing in the North Channel of Georgian Bay. Elaine was an active member of Grace Church on-the-Hill in Toronto and worked with dedication in the Brandon Group. She and Fred also supported square dancing programs, especially those run through CNIB. Her smile and gentleness will be missed. Many thanks to Queenston Place Retirement Home in Niagara Falls for their loving care. A funeral service and interment will be held on Wednesday, August 27th, at 11:00 a.m., at Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West, Toronto. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, it would be Elaine's wish that you do a kind deed for others.
