ELAINE RUTHERFORD Obituary
Elaine Elizabeth Rutherford (née Arnason) passed away on June 21, 2025, shortly before her 88th birthday with her son, Paul, and granddaughter, Caitlin, supporting her. Elaine had valiantly battled a blood disease for many years. Her dear cousin, June Kirk, from Calgary lovingly tended her during her last few days. Elaine was born in Regina to Barney and Anna Arnason and was later raised into adulthood by her second mother, June. Elaine earned her BA degree at the University of Saskatchewan and subsequently joined the Children's Aid Society in Toronto. She placed children for adoption and pioneered the program that reunited adoptees with their birth parents. Elaine is survived by her son, Paul; granddaughter, Caitlin (Derek); and great-granddaughter, Lillianna; and by her daughter-in-law, Kelly, and granddaughter, Marley. She was predeceased by her son, Scott (Kelly). Elaine is also survived by her brother, Morley (Sandra); her nephew, Mark; and great-nephew, Michael. Elaine remained close to her former husband, George Rutherford (Rosaleen). She had a wonderful group of friends, all of whom stayed in close touch. Late in life, Elaine lived at the Bradgate Arms Retirement Home, where she made other lasting friendships, particularly with staff member Sam. In lieu of flowers, Elaine's wish would be donations to your local food bank. There will be a Celebration of Life on November 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bradgate Arms, 54 Foxbar Rd.
