Elizabeth ISAAC Obituary

ISAAC, Elizabeth Harrison (Betty), nee Banner
Peacefully, at her home at 314 Pacific Avenue, Toronto, where she lived for over 58 years, on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, in her 89th year. Predeceased by her cherished husband Gerald Andrew (Gerry) in 1996. Beloved mother of Jamie (Jim), Grant, Elizabeth and Gerald; loving mother-in-law of Anne, Judy, Nigel and Lorraine. Much loved 'Grandma' of Nigel, Andrew, Matthew, Myles, Banner and Gillian. Predeceased by her two sisters Margaret Bodsworth and Tish Rickwood, she is survived by brothers-in-law Fred Bodsworth and Russ Rickwood (Pat), and sisters-in-law Alma Isaac and Hilda Dallimore. Aunt Betty will also be greatly missed by her many admired nieces and nephews. Born in Cardston, Alberta, on January 14, 1914, Betty subsequently moved with her parents Joseph and Patty Banner, and sisters to settle in St. Thomas, Ontario, where she spent her grade and high school years. She married Gerry on April 8, 1944 in London (Ontario) and they moved to West Toronto to start their family. Betty spent her life in selfless service to her church, High Park United, and its Sunday School and to various endeavors, such as the West Toronto Inter- Church Temperance Federation; Vacation Bible School, and Parent-Teacher Associations, both at Annette Street Public School and Humberside Collegiate. Moreover, she never missed an opportunity to help a fellow being, as all the beneficiaries of her love and kindness can readily attest. Her outstanding contributions to the community were recognized in 1999 when she received an International Year of Older Persons Award, presented by the former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, The Honourable Hilary M. Weston. A kindergarten teacher by profession, Betty was well known in the public schools of West Toronto, in the late sixties and seventies, as a much-in-demand supply teacher. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Saturday, September 14 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, September 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service in the Chapel on Monday, September 16, 2002 at 11 a.m. Interment Glendale Memorial Gardens.
