ELIZABETH JOHNSTON Obituary

Dr. Elizabeth Johnston (McCurley) - It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth "Betty" McCurley (née Johnston) announces her death after a brief illness, on January 20, 2026. Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roy. She was a deeply loved Mum to Clare, Kevin (Danielle), and Sean (Elizabeth); Gran to Alec, Katia, and Max; sister to Rosemary (Denis), Billy (Katie), and Brian (Stephanie); and sister-in-law to Myra (Nevin) and Janice (Julian). The family extends heartfelt thanks and love to the many friends and relatives in Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and abroad who were so important to Betty throughout her life. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness, and quiet humour, as well as for her fantastic desserts, including so many family birthday cakes. A private burial was held on January 24th, and a celebration of life will follow at a later date. Donations, if desired, may be made to Doctors Without Borders. The family is grateful to the staff at TGH and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre for their care and compassion.

It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Betty, a truly humble and kind individual. I fondly recall her gracious invitation to all of us at her home on Irish National Day, St. Patrick's Day. Her hospitality and kind gestures were truly unforgettable. Regrettably, I did not have many opportunities to get to know her better. She will undoubtedly remain in our hearts always.

Mrs. and Mr. McCurley were two of the kindest people that I've known.
What started as a working relationship became a cherished friendship.
Clare would bring Betty to see me in Muskoka every summer. I'll miss those visits. Coffee please, no tea.
Summer of 2026 was to include a boat ride with Clare and Lucy.
From Summerhill to Lakeshore to Niagara, Muskoka and beyond.
Please accept our deepest sympathy. With Love and Respect.
