July 31, 1940 – December 23, 2025 Elizabeth, "Libby", passed away peacefully in her 85th year, with her loving husband, Crick Merry; and his daughters, Martha and Sarah, by her bedside. Libby lived a vibrant, spirited, and extraordinary life. She was known for her beauty inside and out, as well as her curiosity and her boundless joie de vivre. Libby cherished her career as a schoolteacher, and her influence on her young students reached far beyond the classroom. An accomplished athlete, she excelled at skiing, tennis, curling, and golf, which she enjoyed within the communities at The Cricket Club, Islington Golf Club, OslerBrook Golf and Country Club, and The Georgian Bay Club. Libby also had a keen eye for design and style whether through watercolour painting, decorating her homes, a carefully chosen outfit, or a beautifully prepared meal paired with just the right wine. She delighted in hosting friends and had a gift for making every gathering warmer, livelier, and more memorable with her wit and generous spirit. She spent many joyful winters in Kitzbühel, Austria, with her late (first) husband, Walter Unterberger, embracing both the culture and the slopes with enthusiasm, and was known for bringing order to the famously chaotic ski lift lines. Though she lived in many places throughout her life, including winters in Sarasota with her late (second) husband Lionel Smith and their precious dogs Casey & Cleo, Libby was always home for Christmas, faithfully returning to celebrate with her brother Walt and family. Her enduring love for Georgian Bay and the life created there remained a constant thread throughout her years. Libby and Crick relished their many adventures abroad - river cruising through Europe, navigating the cobblestones around Lake Chapala in Mexico, and enjoying beach life in the Caribbean as well as Costa Rica. Libby's Birthday wish came true this past summer when they travelled to BC to take the Rocky Mountaineer train from Vancouver to Banff. They shared a beautifully playful dynamic and tender devotion to each other, which was echoed down to their last words. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, Libby was predeceased by her parents, Edward (Ted) Pridham and Eileen (Johnson); her stepmother, Joyce Pridham; her husbands, Walter Unterberger and Lionel Smith; and her beloved brother, Walter Pridham. She is survived by her adoring husband, Crick Merry; loving stepdaughters, Martha Fell (Geoff) and Sarah Merry; cherished nieces and nephews, Gord Pridham (Pam), Sue Pridham (Brad Abbott), and Tom Pridham (Barbara); and many extended family members and friends who held her close in their hearts. She leaves behind a legacy of adventure, affection, and unforgettable stories that will be treasured for generations. A celebration of Libby's life will be held at Fawcett Funeral Home, 82 Pine Street, Collingwood, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, The Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation, or a charity/organization of your choice in her memory. Her family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital, Campbell House Hospice, and to her cherished caregivers, Sarah Farrell and Donna Peacock. Libby will be held in our hearts forever. Friends may visit Libby's online Book of Memories at
