Elspeth FINCH Obituary

ELSPETH FINCH After a challenging illness, Elspeth Finch died on the evening of Friday, October 21, in the loving arms of her family. Elspeth was a remarkable person: fiercely intelligent, deeply caring and loyal to family and friends, ever active and inquisitive. She was born in 1937, in Montreal, to May (Wyllie) and Ronald Wright and grew up in Hudson, Quebec. She attended McGill University, was a member of the AGD sorority and trained as a physiotherapist, graduating in 1959 (BScP&OT). While at McGill, she met her loving husband of nearly 63 years, John Finch, and made many lifelong friends. Loving mother of two children, Paul (Sara) and Mary-Katherine; and beloved grandmother to Tristan and Max. Elspeth continued her studies at University of Toronto and then completed her Master of Health Science at McMaster University. She later held physiotherapy faculty positions at both institutions. Elspeth was an accomplished clinical physical therapist, exceptional educator, and deeply committed to the advancement of her chosen profession. Throughout her life, she fulfilled her desire to travel. From professional exchanges to Sweden in the 90's, to the many cherished family holidays around the globe. Elspeth was beautiful inside and out. She had her own unique style and a keen interest in crafts and quilting. She was a valued member of many organisations, including the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Art Gallery of Burlington, Roseland Club, Beverly Golf Club, her much loved hiking group and book club. Elspeth's legacy will live on in the lives of all those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Crohn's and Colitis Canada. A celebration of Elspeth's life will be held in December.

She was sn exceptionally gifted physio, encouraging me when I needed it most. This may seem silly, but our cat Elspeth is named after her.

Elspeth was one of the warmest, kindest women I have ever known. She was a huge influence on my academic career and was always there to provide wise, thoughtful guidance and mentorship in addition to being a dear, dear friend.
