Emile TEMELCOFF Obituary



M.A., M.D., D. (PSYCH), F.R.C.P .(C) EMILE EDWARD TEMELCOFF Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at St. Joseph's Health Centre. Loving husband and best friend to Dr. Muriel Roach. Devoted father to daughter Catherine (mother Rita). Predeceased by sisters Lillian and Eleanor (Bryan) and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be fondly missed by many extended family members and friends. Born in Toronto, Emile was the son of Macedonian immigrants, Nicholas Temelcoff and Luba (Kimoff). His father came to Canada via Saint John, N.B. at age 14 and after working in mines in Northern Ontario and learning English, he went on to become an owner of a bakery. Nicholas was quite famously noted in Michael Ondaatje's book In the Skin of a Lion. Luba was an Operating Room Nurse in Bulgaria in WWI. After graduating from Humberside Collegiate, he entered U. of T. and went on to the Faculty of Medicine graduating in 1956. He undertook graduate studies in Toronto and obtained his F.R.C.P (Psychiatry). He then . began a long and fulfilling career in Psychiatry working at a Whitby Psychiatric facility and the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. In 1968, he joined the staff of the Queensway General Hospital Department of Psychiatry (now Trillium Health Centre), retiring in 2008. A special thank you to the medical and nursing staff at St. Joseph's Health Centre for their compassionate care during the past few weeks. As per Emile's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Joseph's Health Centre or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
