CHRISTMAS, Eric Cuthbert
Died quietly at his home in Camarillo, California on July 22nd, 2000. Eric was an actor and comedian who spent a significant portion of his career in Toronto and Stratford. He was born in London, England on March 19, 1916 and attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Before the war, he worked in London's West End, including original productions of Noel Coward plays. For the period of the war, he was part of the R.A.F. Gang Show that entertained the troops. He came to Toronto in 1948 from a war-torn England and became a part of the ;golden age; of CBC radio drama with likes of Andrew Allen and John Drainie. For many years he was a regular at the Stratford Festival. He eventually followed Stratford Artistic Director, Michael Langham to California and spent many years working and teaching in California. He became a professor of drama at the University of California at San Diego and continued to work in film and television. Among his film credits are Harold and Maude, Johnny Got His Gun, The Andromeda Strain, Bugsy, Mouse Hunt, and Air Bud. In his later years he often worked in a number of television programs including Cheers, and Allie McBeal. His last performance was this past February in Allie McBeal. He is survived by daughters Holly and Kylie, his son Robin and his wife Marcie.
