ERIC LAURENCE WIERCINSKI 1991-2023 We lost a beacon of light and caring when Eric passed at home on November 28, 2023. Predeceased by his mother, Faye O'Donnell, and his uncle, Laurence O'Donnell, Eric will be missed by his father, Henry, uncles, Edward (Lorraine) and Karl Wiercinski, his aunt, Susan Wiercinski, his cousins and his many classmates, teammates and friends. Eric was a complex person. Generous, with a beaming smile and resonant laugh, yet introspective. Eric spent idyllic summers at the family home in St. Andrews-by-the Sea, where he developed many friends, a love of music and, of all things, hockey. His signature slap shot and big frame were legendary. Yet his defining feature was his encouragement and caring for his teammates, something that permeated all his endeavours. Eric would say that he was happiest on the ice. As a youngster, Eric enjoyed skiing and snowboarding. He travelled widely, sharing times with his cousins and developing a perspective of the world. He loved his dogs. His ball cap collection was exhaustive. Eric had a discerning palate and was comfortable in the kitchen. His omelets and rubs were tours de force. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit and was well along in developing an online clothing line. Empathy defined Eric. He cared deeply for both friends and strangers and the world around him. Unfairness and inequality that he saw deeply troubled him. This caused him to constantly ask 'What am I. What is my purpose?' He believed that it was to make a difference. This he strove to do. So in memory of Eric, in your own way, make a difference. The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16th, until the service at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the Rosedale Room.
