ERICK KARUN SODHI October 7, 1963 - October 10, 2021 Beloved son, brother and dear friend, Erick passed away October 10, 2021 in Ottawa, aged 58. Predeceased by his father, Rajendera, mother, Eeva and brother Raoul. Erick will be missed by the many friends he gathered far and wide. Software guru, tech aficionado, gifted photographer, Erick attacked life with the kind of curiosity, intensity and diligence that left most people's heads spinning. Erick graduated from Ottawa University with a degree in computer science in 1986. His career ranged from his early days at Telesat, to coding financial trading systems in London, England to consulting, and most recently as a cloud solutions architect at Vantage IT/4Point. Erick thought nothing of pulling all-nighters to help his clients and reach the high standards he set for himself. Erick was always the first to jump on new tech, whether it be new-fangled things called cell phones, Facebook, or networking up his beloved vehicles. Later in life, Erick turned his passion for photography into a business, spending many a night documenting bands in and around Ottawa, and taking beautiful pictures of nature, airplanes and portraits. His most recent obsession was cooking, tantalizing us all with photos of his creations on Instagram. He had a quick wit that seemed to capture the absurdities of life perfectly. Erick was a prepper before there was such a term and always had a backpack, sleeping bag, flashlight and jumper cables at the ready in his trunk. While he would tell you he liked to be prepared for anything, more likely it was because he liked to be prepared to help someone else, for Erick had an open heart and was, above all, a trusted and loyal friend. Erick died of complications from diabetes, kidney and heart disease, a combination of illnesses which he fought like a warrior until the end. A celebration of Erick's life will take place at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Home, 3440 Richmond Rd., Nepean (between Bayshore & Baseline Rd.) on Sunday, October 24th from 2-4 p.m. Due to Covid restrictions, we ask that all those that will be attending please register at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com/obituary/erick-sodhi.
