MERCIER, Ernest Cochrane (69 years)
Passed away suddenly Saturday morning July 20, 2002 at the Scarborough Grace Hospital. Blanketed warmly in the love of his family and many friends, his memory will be forever cherished by his wife Eileen, his five children, Jennifer (Steven) Cole, Sheelagh (Hugh) Geiger, Peter (Nicola), Michael (Patricia) and Stuart, by his nephews Colin (Barbara) and David (Tammy), Eileen's parents, Paddy and Frances Falconer, her brother Jim and by his former wife Jill. Beloved Grandpa to Connor, Tyler, Erin, Heather, Ross, Felix and Graham. Born in Dublin, Ireland, and trained as an engineer at the University of Glasgow Scotland, he emigrated to Canada in 1954 and built a successful career here, first at Courtauld's, Monsanto, and Chemcell in Montreal and for twenty-three years at The Toronto Dominion Bank in Toronto, retiring in 1993 as Executive Vice- President Corporate and Investment Banking. He was a man whose honesty, integrity and wisdom were legendary among his banking colleagues and customers and aspired to by the legions of young bankers who passed through his care and training during their careers. Those who knew him best will remember his sparkling and gentle wit and his devotion to his family, who brought him immense joy and filled him with pride. He was an avid reader and golfer and an intrepid traveler who was never as happy as when planning a trip to some new part of the world. Friends may call at the TRULL 'NORTH TORONTO' FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTRE, 2704 Yonge Street (5 blocks south of Lawrence) on Monday and Tuesday evening, July 22 and 23 , from 6 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will he held at ST. ANDREW'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (75 Simcoe St. at King St.) on Wednesday, July 24, at 2:30 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the Princess Margaret or Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundations.
