Veggie shopping is one of the banes of my existence. However it is one of those chores that must be done from week to week. Ethel frequented the same supermarket as I, and she often had the urge to check out the greens and tomatoes in my shopping cart. The tomatoes were invariably too soft and the greens too floppy. She attributed these errors in judgment to my Toronto upbringing whereas she had emigrated from Montreal.

A most admired woman in times where most stayed home. I found a friendly, warm and opinionated person, and will not forget her straight forward , thought provoking, wise woman.

She was a woman of fine spirit and intelligence and forceful opinion. She was extremely generous with her time and her views on society and politics. She was a great cook! She cherished her family and nourished her many friends, all of whom, I am sure, miss her already.
