G. FOSTER SMITH, M.D. It is with deep sadness and great love that we announce the passing of Dr. Foster Smith who died peacefully in Toronto on Friday, September 24, 2004 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Mary (Fletcher) and is survived by his three children Michael (Connie), Peter (Joy) and Pamela, and his sister Dora Halpenny. Grandchildren Meghan, Colin, Peter, Mary, Michael, David, Aaron and Nathan will always cherish his memory. Foster will be remembered by the many, many friends and colleagues who enjoyed his warm companionship, his deep devotion and his professional commitment. He inspired many with his energy, enthusiasm and sense of responsibility. He was a respected anaesthesiologist, committed church member, tireless peace and environment activist, avid bird watcher, pioneer photographer, skilled carpenter and life-long cottager. We would like to thank the staff of Sunnybrook and Women's Hospital for the expert care and warm sympathy that made his passing comfortable. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A. W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East), from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th. Service will be held at TIMOTHY EATON MEMORIAL CHURCH, 230 St. Clair Avenue West on Thursday, September 30th at 11 o'clock. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Physicians for Global Survival, 208-145 Spruce Street, Ottawa, Ontario, K1R 6P1, would be appreciated.
