FRANCES BURROWS Obituary
(nee Humble, March 19, 1918 - January 6, 2026) It is with profound gratitude for a long life well-lived that we share news of the passing of Frances Burrows. She died peacefully, at North York General Hospital on January 6, 2026, at the age of 107. Frances Burrows, born in Grimethorpe, Yorkshire, led an extraordinary life marked by love, resilience, and vitality. She married her village sweetheart, Leslie, during a wartime leave in 1940, later serving as a corporal herself in the Auxiliary Territorial Service while he served overseas. Reunited after the war, they started a family and immigrated to Canada in the 1950s, first to Timmins and then, in 1962, to Don Mills, where Frances worked at Eaton's for decades and built lasting friendships. After Leslie's death in 1991, she maintained an active, independent life, known for her elegance, extensive travels, love of reading, piano playing, and spirited humour. She attributed her longevity to "rum in my coffee and whisky in my tea," remaining an inspiring and kind presence until her final trip to Florida in March 2025. Frances was predeceased by her husband, Leslie; and son, John; and is survived by her sons, Richard (Carole) and Brian (Terryl). The family offers their sincere gratitude to the staff at the hospital and at Donway Place who cared for her in her final days. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 22nd, at 10 a.m., followed by a reception at the Church of the Ascension, where Frances was a parishioner since 1962. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North York General Hospital and the Church of the Ascension, Don Mills, or a charity of your choice.
