FRANCES DELVOIE Obituary

Frances passed away at Kingston General hospital on September 25, 2024. Frances was a woman of many parts. As a young woman, she held 18 different jobs in fields as varied as banking and real estate, hotel management and television production. She also travelled extensively in Europe and Asia. In 1968, she met and married her husband, Louis, in Cairo, Egypt. For the next 30 years she accompanied Louis on his various postings in the Canadian Foreign Service. This included living in Algiers, Brussels, London and Islamabad. While in Britian she registered as a full-time student at the London School of Economics, and at the age of 58, she was awarded an honours degree in Social Anthropology. As she frequently mentioned, she was not only older than all of her fellow students, but also older than most of her professors. As a diplomatic spouse, she held down many volunteer positions, including the presidency of the Canadian Woman's Club of Belgium and Chair of the St. Joseph's Hospice Support committee, comprising of some 300 Pakastani women and 300 expatriates. Since coming to Kingston following Louis's retirement from the Foreign Service, she has worked as a volunteer with Queen's Theological College, the Immigration Services Counsil of Kingston and the Ongwanda Organization. Frances is survived by Louis, her husband of 55 years; by her daughter, Sandra; her son-in-law, Gregory Van Court; and her granddaughters, Abigail and Rebecca. The family would like to express their thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Kidd 6 Wing at Kingston General Hospital, who took care of her during her final days, as well as to the staff of Briargate Retirement Home where she spent her final months.
