Frances FALCONER Obituary
FALCONER, Frances K. (Boone)
R.N.
Passed away November 21, 2011, of old age, in her 93rd year. She was married for 62 years to Thomas S. (Paddy) Falconer, who died in June 2008. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Eileen Mercier (Charles Hantho) and her son Jim Falconer ( Kristi Gourlay). She was loved and will be missed so much by Jen, Sheelagh, Peter, Michael and Stuart, and by the eight great-grandchildren she loved to watch growing bigger by the year. Born in 1919 on a farm near Indian Head, Saskatchewan to Joe and Nell Boone, she came to Toronto in 1938 to study nursing at The Toronto General Hospital. Graduating in 1941, she spent her career largely in the operating rooms of that hospital, learning to be the strong, resilient and resourceful woman we all came to know and love. When she and Paddy moved with his work to Owen Sound, Sarnia and Fort Erie, besides looking after her own family, she worked at her own private mission to keep numerous old people in each neighbourhood healthy and in their own homes. And she baked the best apple pie in the world. At her request, there will just be a private family remembrance. Donations, for those so inclined, could be directed to the Frances Falconer Nursing Scholarships at the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation.
